Dubsea Coffee

Local Review

Another Seattle review as we gear up for winter and the hunt begins for indoor play options.
Up this week:  Dubsea Coffee in White Center
Overall rating: 9/10

Thumbs up & Thumbs down...

  • Cafe Space:  UP - The cafe has incredible natural light, especially considering that this is Seattle, after all, due to extra large windows on two sides.   Plenty of tables and chairs (though I do wish they had some more "cozy" seating, instead of just the hard, straight-backed variety).  It's clean and has a very spacious feel about it.  They hang rotating local art on the walls and have some cool counters and bar stools.    I will say that the times I've gone in for work, not play, I was struck by how bright it is.  It doesn't have that lower-lighting ambiance that I've come to expect in a cafe.  This is neither here nor there.  Just different.  How I feel about it depends on my mood and why I've come.  I dig it when I'm there with my kids.  And it's condusive for working.  If I want to snuggle up with a book, though?  I might choose something different.
  • Coffee:  UP - Stumptown.  Enough said, right?
  • Other Food itemsUndecided - Pastries looked good enough.  But I didn't try any
  • Friendliness of workers:  UP - I've been there several times in the past few weeks, with and without my kids, and the baristas are very friendly
  • Types and cleanliness of toysUP - The have train tracks, shape sorters, a magnetic area with letter magnets, and other fun toys.  They all appear to be clean and there is a nice rug on the floor in the area for the kids to play on, as well as a small table and chairs.  I also spotted a clean exer-saucer that was available for use.
  • BathroomsUP - There is one bathroom and it was clean and large.  No changing table but they have a stool for kids to use to wash their hands.
  • CostUP - The play space is FREE and the coffee/pastry prices are normal.

Bottom line?
Excellent latte for me and a new space for my kids to play during the winter.  It'll definitely be on our go-to list this winter.  Have you been there?  What was your take on the space?
